Like many of their slot games, it has a vintage vibe. The table looks like it would be right at home in a 1970s casino or a Sean Connery Bond film! The felt is grey and the wood looks like it’s a warm-coloured, polished mahogany. The other details in the game, such as the chip and card holders, are gold. The cards are classically designed and blue in colour. The numbers and the suit symbols are large and bold, so they’re easy to read. The royal cards (Jack, Queen King and Ace) are intricately designed and have two suit symbols on them (on opposite corners). In contrast, the other cards (2 – 10), have four suit symbols on them (one in each corner), rather than the number corresponding to their value. The chips are the most colourful thing in this game! The lowest-value chip is yellow. Then, in ascending order of value, there’s the white chip, the red chip, the blue chip, the green chip, the brown chip and the pink chip.
Of the table games, Baccarat is the simplest of all. There are only three possible bets you can make each round. These are: Player, Banker or Tie. When you bet on the Player, you are betting that the Player will win. When you bet on the Banker, you are betting that the Banker will win. When you bet on Tie, you are betting that neither the Player nor the Banker will beat the other. Instead, you’ll be betting that they get the same score (they tie). It’s up to you how much you bet. You can bet the same each round, by using the ‘Rebet’ option. If you want to bet differently, you can use the ‘New Bet’ option. It’s very much up to you each round. Make sure that, if you’re playing for real money, that you bet within your budget. It’s important to keep your gaming responsible so that it’s within an affordable level for you. If you are a responsible gamer, you will always have fun!
The rules of Baccarat are a little more complicated than the bets. In Novomatic’s version of Baccarat, you can open the information tab to read all about the game and the specific rules. Unlike in Blackjack, in this well-loved table game, the magic number is 9. Keep that in your head as you play – number 9 is the answer! Both the Player and the Banker need to get as close to a total of 9 as possible, using the cards in their hand.
The Player’s cards are dealt on the left and the Banker’s cards are dealt on the right. Each get two cards initially and can potentially draw a third, depending on the outcome of the first draw. If either the Player or the Banker have a hand that adds up to 8 or 9, the game ends there and bets are paid. If neither the Player’s nor the Banker’s hand adds up to 8 or 9, a third card may be drawn by each. This starts with the Player, who can draw if their hand adds up to anywhere between 0-5. If the Player ends up with a hand that equals 8 or 9, they win. If the Player ends up with a hand that equals 6 or 7, the Dealer may draw a third card if his hand adds up to anywhere between 0-5.
A hand is worth the total of the two (or three) cards. Ace is worth 1. The cards 2-9 are worth face value points (so a 5 is worth 5 and a 7 is worth 7). 10, Jack, Queen and King are all worth 0. If the total of the cards in a hand adds up to a single-digit number, that’s simply the total. If the total of the cards adds up to a two-digit number, it’s the second digit that’s taken as the total. For example, if the Player has a 3 and a 2, his total is 5 (3+2). If the Banker has a 9 and a 6, his total will also be 5 (9+6 = 15 so 5 is the total).
In Baccarat, you win if you bet on the right person! You don’t get dealt any cards yourself, instead you bet on either the Player or the Banker, both of whom will be dealt cards. You can also make a Tie bet, which will pay out if the game ends up in a tie with both the Player and the Banker having an equal total. A Player bet pays 1:1, so if you bet £/$/€1 and the Player wins, you will win £/$/€1. A Banker bet pays 1:1 (less a commission), so if you bet £/$/€1 and the Banker wins, you will win slightly less than £/$/€1. A Tie bet pays 8:1, so if you bet £/$/€1 on a Tie bet and the players Tie, you’ll be paid £/$/€8. This bet has the highest payouts if you win but it’s also the least likely outcome! Don’t forget you can make more than one bet each round, so you could bet on the Player and a Tie at the same time, for example.
