Katana Mobile

Ancient Japan Comes Alive with Katana Mobile

This Novomatic slot game takes its inspiration from ancient Japan where the samurais used to use Katana swords to fight for their Shogun, the title given to the military dictator of Japan. This period when Shoguns were in power lasted for almost 800 years and Japan, under the leadership of the Shogun, fought wars and battles and became the Japan we know and love today. You can now play Katana on your mobile and this version of the game is no different to the desktop version, except everything is in miniature and you need to click on the ‘menu’ to change the settings. The game has five reels and twenty paylines and plenty of style! In the background, you can see a red bridge leading over a stream, lined with lush green grass. The sun’s rays are lighting up the area and it looks almost fairy-tale like. This is contrasted with the symbols which are mainly war themed and feature warriors in battle. Katana Mobile has Wilds, Scatters, Free Spins, Autoplay and Gamble. When the Free Games begin, the background turns into a battlefield! The theme might be unique but this game is very typical of Novomatic and fans of their other games, such as: Book of Ra Deluxe Mobile, Dragon’s Wild Fire Mobile, Lord of the Ocean Mobile and Spectrum Mobile, will get a kick out of spinning these war-filled reels!

The Paying Symbols of Ancient Japan

Katana has five reels and twenty paylines, any number of which you can choose to have active. Paylines pay from left to right, and winning symbols will need to fall on adjacent reels, starting from the leftmost reel. All of the symbols in Katana Mobile will need to match three or more before they payout and you can open the paytable to see the payout amounts that are relevant to your current bet. The card values are the lowest-paying symbols and these are: the 10, Jack, Queen, King and Ace. Then, you have the Japanese shrine and the impressive and towering Japanese castle, the Japanese archers and the warrior atop a horse, carrying the banner, and finally the beautiful geisha. These symbols are so beautifully-designed, it will make it hard to believe this is just a slot game you’re playing! The card values look as though they’ve been hand-painted by a Japanese calligrapher and the more intricate symbols could almost be mistaken for paintings! Payouts will increase relative to your bet and you can adjust this anywhere from the minimum bet of 0.01 per line to a maximum bet of 2.00 per line.

The Katana Sword and the Shogun

The Shogun symbol pays more than the geisha and he is also Wild, so he can fill in for any other symbol on the reels but not for the Scatter. The Katana sword on its stand is the Scatter symbol which not only pays out from three matches, no matter how or where they land on the reels, but it will also start 10 Free Games! The Free Games in Katana come with an extra special feature called the ‘Shogun Bonus’. For this bonus, during the Free Games, every time a shogun Wild symbol falls in such a position that it can give wins, it will expand to cover all three positions of the reel, effectively making it three Wild symbols in one. This means that it can substitute in more combinations and get you bigger wins! You can only dream of the wins you might get with this feature if more than one reel is covered with the expanded shogun Wild symbol.

Hands-Free Wins and Gamble Game

It’s not all about ancient Japan, sometimes it’s just about the good old slot game. In Katana Mobile, like in the desktop version of the game, you can use the autoplay feature you be able to win hands-free as the reels spin themselves automatically. Simply hold down the spin button to start this feature and click to stop. After getting wins (out of autoplay) you can choose to gamble the payout using the gamble feature. This gives you a 50/50 chance of either doubling or losing it so be careful when you’re choosing between red and black!
